Module 11 - Matisse/Picasso and Dada/Surrealism
Video 1: Matisse and Picasso
1. I chose this video because Matisse is one of my very favorite artists. And I wanted to learn more about him as a person and how his art evolved and why it evolved the way it did. I also had no idea why Matisse and Picasso was the title and what the video would entail about the two.
2. I learned that Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso actually knew each other and interacted with one another throughout their entire lives. They even exchanged paintings and held art exhibitions together.
3. The chapter had a few excerpts about Matisse and Picasso.
4. I found the video to be very informative, I really enjoyed it. I also enjoyed seeing Matisse draw in the beginning and do some artwork throughout
Video 2: Dada and Surrealism
1. I chose this video because I read something or heard something somewhere not long ago about someone saying that they didn't believe Dada was an art movement. And personally I've never heard of it so I wanted to watch it and see what they meant. And I always loved surrealism growing up.
2. I learned that Dadism is a movement of collages. And it seems to be a way for artists to be politically satirical, adding political figures heads on fat baby's bodies.
3. The chapter talked about post impressionism and surrealism. Mentioning Salvador Dali's work.
4. The video was a bit dry and slow. The narrator wasn't very interesting.
